Kindergarten Weaving

The Kindergarteners have began a weaving unit this November.  This is always a challenging new skill for young ones, but these students really impressed me.  They first observed samples of fabric and identified the various and threads used to create them.  Then they worked on a simple, large scale weaving project and they made sure to take their time.

The next class day, we observed various types of patterns and designs and they were able to create their own to put on their woven piece.  They also began weaving around the edges with yarn.

The next week, we worked with different materials to exercise our weaving and fine motor skills.

They began creating their circle loom yesterday (nov. 17). This lesson was a challenge for everyone (including me) but we made it!  I wish I could've stopped to take progress pictures, but I had my hands full with assisting here and there.  I can't wait to get started on the next step!
