"My Atlanta Exhibition"

The 4th grade class is participating in a photography exhibition at The Piedmont Park Community Center off of Piedmont Ave. The exhibition schedule will be at the end of this post.

This event was open to the public and several other local schools have entered.  MIS was the only school that had elementary aged participants and the only participants who did not use an actual camera for photography purposes.  We have been utilizing a device that we all have and use on a daily basis, the iPad.  I was worried that it would create low quality images, but after witnessing the students take countless pictures on their iPads - without considering subject matter, composition, or lighting - I felt it was necessary to teach an "iPadography" lesson.

The lesson objective was to:

-show depth
-use "The Rule of Thirds"
-create Diagonal Balance
-and compose interesting photographs that draw the viewer in through interesting angles

We want viewers to stop and think about what they see.

The pictures turned out to be amazing, and several viewers were surprised to hear that they were taken with an iPad and even more surprised to learn that they were taken by elementary school students.

After we hung our photographs,  the students enjoyed participating in some fun activities in the park!
